A unique approach to the Arthurian legend, this is the first of a series that takes a realist approach to the story. Whyte forgoes the fantasy or mythological aspect of it and shows how it could have been real. For example, the Excalibur was exceptional because it was crafted out of a meteorite, making it invincible. The series works on the premise that the myth is grounded in plausible situations. It is an enjoyable read and focuses on Arthur's story prior to becoming king. Well worth reading.
